Luwawa Forest Lodge, Malawi’s Premier Outdoor Activity Centre, is located in the Viphya Mountains in northern Malawi, a pleasant and malaria–free climate, at 5500 ft (1700m) above sea level. It is only 8 km (5 miles) east of the main M1 road in the Luwawa Forest Reserve. Access is by means of a good all-weather dirt road only 3 hours from Lilongwe.
The lodge is ideally situated in the beautiful and tranquil Luwawa Valley overlooking Luwawa Dam which is well stocked with a variety of fish including wide-mouthed bream. Fishing in season is permitted. Bed and breakfast or full board is available and payment is by cash or VISA card. Camping is available. Luwawa is renowned for its variety of colourful birdlife and bushbuck are frequently seen. The comfortable and spacious family accommodation, full-catering and bar facilities make it an ideal place for a family holiday at a reasonable cost.
The lodge has been operating for 22 years and specialises in outdoor adventure Tourism and the activities on offer include horse riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling, trail walking, canoeing, fishing, birding, orienteering, forest fitness courses, table tennis etc. Equipment for most of the activities and instructors are available for hire. Guided long distance hikes, mountain bike safaris and horse riding safaris into very remote areas or down the rift lake escarpment to Lake Malawi, of duration to suit your requirement can also be arranged.
